Web Design

satPro-L300DIt’s only $649, but not good enough for Toshiba Satellite Pro L300D-EZ1001V as you will not found complete feature on it. The silver color design underneath of this 15.4-inch notebook is quite simple but matching with a black keyboard. The touchpad is large and the touch button loud, but we like the frictionless surface, also the keys are ample, shallow and easy to type on, if a tad noisy. The Wi-Fi switch, headphone and microphone ports, with the 4-in-1 memory card reader are all located on the front end. With 5.8 pounds weight, the notebook will feels light for a mainstream notebook.

The area above the keyboard is blank, except the power button next to the keyboard, there is no a feature buttons like for Web surfing, Multimedia keys, Quick setting, etc. It’s quite a simple design. We were pleased with the color, brightness, and viewing angles when we watched a movie from the 1280 x 800-pixel notebook’s display. Toshiba’s Trubrite technology does a decent job of making movie look glossy without being overly reflective. Although not terribly powerful, the sound coming through the speakers was loud enough for watching movies in a quiet room.

The L300D’s port is pretty standard feature: 3 USB ports, Ethernet and modem jacks, headphone and mic ports, an ExpressCard slot, and a memory card reader, which works with SD, MMC, MS and MS Pro formats. It would be great if there is a Webcam installed on there, but unfortunately not for this L300D.

The system doesn’t have many of business features standard in the Portégé and Tecra series, such as TPM circuitry, a spill-resistant keyboard, shock-mounted hard drive, and 3D accelerometers. However, 3D accelerometers, in addition to Computrace support and fingerprint readers, are offered in select Satellite Pro models. With Vista Home Basic, the L300D not only simple but it’s a standard Operating System. Refreshingly, the L300D comes with less crapware than Toshiba’s consumer machines usually do, just Google Desktop, Google Picasa, Google Toolbar, Microsoft Office 2007, and Norton 360 Anti-virus. That’s good news for those who want a clean image out of the box. However, it took 2 minutes to start up, since the Operating System is Vista Home Basic, which took too much memory to start them, particularly one that’s not bogged down with copious amounts of trialware. Then again, we had no problem watching a movie while running Norton 360 in the background.

The battery life was not disappointing as the features, but it wasn’t exceptionally good news either at a brief 2 hours, 18 minutes on a single charge of the 4000-mAh power pack (the average battery usually reaches around 3 hours before running out), 1 hour, 40 minutes on DVD rundown test. Because this test drains the battery more quickly than everyday usage, we estimate that if you were surfing the Web and using productivity software instead, the battery would last a little over 3 hours.

With the exception of a crapware-free desktop, the Satellite Pro L300D-EZ1001V has no features tailored for mobile professionals. However, if money is tight, this notebook offers a decent keyboard, a less reflective display than some other models, and workable performance.
