6228-000620When you read the above title, you will feel it’s too complicated to do it. And you will say “why we have to do that, while we have an antivirus to solve that problem”. Seem that a good statement, but did you know?, there is no antivirus without the existence of a virus. It’s meaning, you will not make an antivirus if you don’t have any information regarding the virus. Let’s see the conficker virus case, most of the antiviruses were unable to detect or remove that virus just because they don’t have a virus definition yet on their database, of course it’s a new virus, and the antivirus makers will need more information about that new virus before launch the antivirus. It will occur repeatedly if there is a new virus again. That’s why we have to learn how to remove a virus manually by ourself.

  1. Check the background process and find any Illegal Process, which is running in your Computer. You can press Ctrl+Alt+Del to display the background process (it’s a Task Manager on Windows XP), then select the ‘process’ tab menu. Usually the virus process will affect to the memory usage of your Computer, you can check the memory usage by sorting the memory usage from high to low usage. Check what kind of Process has high memory usage. Furthermore, check the name of each background-process and find what process’s name is not usually Seen as.
  2. If you found any Illegal Process or a not usually seen as, then select the process from the list and right-click on it, click ‘End task’, it will kill the Illegal Process. Now, you can remove any files related to it, as you have known the process name from the Task Manager when you kill the Process. Try to search the file using Search feature of Windows and delete the file. If it can’t to be deleted, that mean, there is another Illegal Process still running. Repeat the 1st step.
  3. Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools->Folder Options and Click the ‘View’ tab-menu. Check the ‘Show hidden files and folders’ option and also uncheck the ‘Hide protected operating system files’ and Click OK. It’s to prevent the virus to hide all its component files. Delete ‘autorun.inf’ and any suspicious files from any folder.
  4. Run the Startup Manager, I prefer to use “Autoruns” Program to manage Windows Start up. In the “Autoruns” Program you need to uncheck any suspicious Windows Start up.
  5. Check the registry. Click Start menu and click Run, type “regedit” and press Enter, you will see the new window which named Registry Editor. Go to :

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun

Remove any unnecessary registry related to the Windows Startup from Registry Editor.

After finishing the above steps, reboot your Computer. Well, you have successfully removed the virus from your Computer manually.

Note:

I have tried the above steps to eliminate some virus from my computer, and it’s worked. Good luck to try!
