
Research In Motion goes to China
Today, the blackberry vendor Research In Motion Ltd., starting their market in China. That’s sound good news as they got a new corporate relation with Digital China Holdings Ltd, which will have a license to distribute any Blackberry phone around China. That’s mean the Research In Motion Ltd. have a big chance in asia global phone market.
RIM will use China Digital’s knowledge of the market to expand its presence in the country, the Waterloo, Ontario-based company said today in a statement. RIM didn’t disclose the terms.
The company sought the agreement as rival Apple Inc. began distributing its top-selling iPhone in the country through China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. on Oct. 30. RIM only sells its older 8700 model in China through carrier China Mobile Ltd. Other BlackBerry models bought elsewhere are compatible with China Mobile service.
Digital China, based in Hong Kong, has 19 regional distribution centers and about 8,300 employees, according to RIM’s statement.
RIM rose $1.53, or 2.6 percent, to $60.28 at 4 p.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. The shares have gained 49 percent this year.
RIM and China Mobile will hold a news conference in Beijing tomorrow at 11 a.m. local time to give details of plans to “strengthen the development” of the BlackBerry in China, according to an invitation. (source: bloomberg.com)
