paper battery

A couple year ago, i have imagined that someday we will no longer use any weight battery as it will be replaced to something else which have a weightless and more powerfull. Then, today the dream become true story. It’s a Paper Battery, a portable device which has an ability to supply a power electric. Paper Battery also does not need a huge space for its placement since the dimension of this Paper Battery is very thin and lightweight.

According to ABC News, Scientists at Stanford University managed to turn a piece of paper that had been coated with ink made from silver and carbon into what has been called a “paper battery.” This has opened up a number of possibilities when designing future portable devices, such as smartphones.

The nanowire technology used is the same that was found to hold 10 times the amount of power as standard battery. This would be ideal for use on laptops and netbooks, giving you much more life while using your device on the move.

This type of battery could be useful in powering electric or hybrid vehicles, would make electronics lighter weight and longer lasting, and might even lead someday to paper electronics, the scientists said. Battery weight and life have been an obstacle to commercial viability of electric-powered cars and trucks.”Society really needs a low-cost, high-performance energy storage device, such as batteries and simple supercapacitors,” Stanford assistant professor of materials science and engineering and paper co-author Yi Cui said.

Cui said in an e-mail that in addition to being useful for portable electronics and wearable electronics, “Our paper supercapacitors can be used for all kinds of applications that require instant high power.”

“Since our paper batteries and supercapacitors can be very low cost, they are also good for grid-connected energy storage,” he said.
