As we know that the internet cable connection will need a media to connect through the internet, which was called as a modem. In this case we will focus on the modem installation of Comcast cable internet service which is included on the comcast internet package. It’s a Motorola SURFboard cable modem as a high-speed internet access media that have an ethernet and USB port with a maximum transfer rate up to 32 Mbps and 100Mbps of network data transfer. The modem’s driver has installed inside the modem, so we don’t need any CD driver when we want to install this Comcast modem. So what you need to do is simply connecting the modem to your computer or laptop and performing some basic configuration as like as the following steps :
1. Turn on your computer and log in to your operating system as normal. Prepare a location for your cable modem so that you can connect the device to both your cable outlet and your computer. Connect the coaxial cable leading from your cable outlet to the corresponding port on the rear of your modem. Tighten the end of the connector until the cable is securely in place. Plug one end of the power supply into the corresponding port on the rear of the modem; plug the remaining end into any available electrical outlet.
2. Examine the lights on the front panel of the modem; wait for the “Power,” “Send,” “Receive” and “Online” lights to turn solid green before you continue.
3. Connect an end of the Ethernet cable to the corresponding port on the rear of the modem; connect the remaining end to any available Ethernet port on your computer.
4. Open your operating system’s control panel or system preferences window and access the settings for network configuration. Enable the options for automatically obtaining an IP address and DNS server address. These options are usually found in the section for setting TCP/IP preferences. Restart your computer. Installation is now complete.
If you are using a computer that runs Windows and are unable to connect to the Internet after installation, renewing your IP address may help. Access the “Run” command via the Start Menu, type “cmd” and press “OK;” type “ipconfig /renew” at the prompt and press “Enter” then type “exit” and press “Enter” again. If the lights on your cable modem refuse to turn solid green, try resetting the modem by pressing “Reset” on the rear of the device or by temporarily disconnecting the power supply. If this fails to solve the problem, contact your service provider. If necessary, you can purchase a cable splitter for your coaxial cable; this will allow you to connect 2 devices (such as a cable box and your modem) to the same cable outlet.
