Sony Digital Reader Device
To attract customers and compete closely with other digital reading devices, Finally Sony cuts the price of three types of their digital reader products. Whereas previously, many analysts think that the Sony seems to ignore these digital reader devices. As we quoted from Cnet, 07/12/2010, The Sony Pocket Reader which was $169 USD on the previous release, now Sony reduce the price to $149 USD to counter the competition with the Nook WiFi products offered by Barnes & Noble.
Meanwhile, the Touch Reader has been discounted from $199 USD to $169 USD and the most expensive Sony Digital Reader which is namely as Daily Edition is now only for $299 USD, reduced from the previous price as $349.
Probably not many people knowing that, if the Sony Reader once monopolized market eBooks Reader. But the glory did not last long. Since the presence of Amazon’s Kindle sold, and the difficult position of Sony slipped up again.
Now finally, Sony following the footsteps of Kindle and Nook by cutting their product’s price, though perhaps a bit too late. Presumably, Sony itself has not given his best efforts to be re-entrenched in the top position in ebooks market. Because in fact, Sony has not spawned new innovations that can boost the popularity of their eBook to return victory.
The analysts said, Sony Reader has many disadvantages compared with the competitors ebooks products. Which whom do not have mobile data connection and the e-ink on the Sony Reader are still using old technology.
The competition becomes more intense, and of course Sony should look at this and try hard to make moves to avoid getting lose their market.
