The South Koreans Athletes Kim Yu-na Wins the GOld Medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver with a record score on Friday. This is the first South Korean athletes bring the gold medal home at the Winter Olympics in a sport other than speedskating. Kim Yu-na showing her best performance On Thursday night which has scored 150.06 points in the ladies’ free skating at the Pacific Coliseum. Combined with her 78.5 points in the short program on Wednesday, the total score was 228.56 points, breaking the previous world record of 201.03 points which she set in the Grand Prix Trophée Eric Bompard in Paris last October.
Kim’s arch rival Asada Mao of Japan took the silver medal with 205.5 points and Canada’s Rochette Joannie the bronze with 202.64 points. Korean figure skater Kwak Min-jung finished 13th with a personal best score of 155.53 points.
Twenty-year-old Kim is the first Korean figure skater ever to win an Olympic medal.
